Inaugural Visit of EUFOR Commander to SIPA

Today (29/01/2015) – Director of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) Goran Zubac received the visit of the EUFOR delegation headed by the newly appointed Commander Major General Johann Luif. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Director Đuro Knežević and Acting Commander of the Special Support Unit Jovica Mirosavljević.

Major General Johann Luif said that a liaison officer communicated excellent impressions about cooperation with SIPA and that he believes such cooperation will be continued in the future. He stressed the EUFOR support to SIPA as well as a significance of mutual cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Director Zubac said that SIPA is a reliable and desirable partner and is at disposal to EUFOR.Since this was the inaugural visit of the newly appointed Commander, the Director of SIPA presented all aspects of the Agency’s operation. He emphasised that the future priorities will be uncompromising fight against terrorism, organised crime, financial crime and corruption, and war crimes. Zubac said that SIPA in the past three years achieved significant results and that this trend will continue in the future. He also emphasised that special attention will be given to strengthening overall SIPA capacity in order to be able to keep pace with time. The SIPA Director informed the EUFOR Commander about the procurement plans of new equipment for the SIPA Special Support Unit and said that the police officials of this Unit were trained in accordance with the highest international standards and that the future focus would be on additional reinforcing their operational power and readiness.

Participants of the meeting gave a brief overview of the exchange of experience in the field of special operations tactics between the SIPA Special Support Unit and EUFOR British Unit "Light Dragoons", which took place in September 2014. The sides agreed that cooperation will continue.
